Work Experience

Computer Consultant 1991-Present
Since 1991 I have consulted to a number of individuals and businesses. During this time I have developed computer applications written in Active Server Pages, Visual Basic Script, SQL Server, Access, and Oracle. Since March / 96, I have spent the majority of my consulting hours developing custom Internet Web Sites, successfully specializing in integrating ODBC compliant databases with Active Server Pages over the Internet. I have extensive experience in Microsoft Products, such as NT Server, NT Workstation, Windows 95/98, Internet Information Server, Transaction Server, Index Server, SQL Server, MS Office 2000, Visual Basic, Visual Interdev. FrontPage2000, and many others. Experience with software outside of the Microsoft arena include: Home Site, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Oracle and more. My communication skills, both in writing and orally, are excellent. I am a team player and am known for prioritizing my tasks well, meeting deadlines, and keeping my customers very happy. More recently, typical duties would include: Design, Development, and Maintenance of Business Web sites and Design and Development of complex databases and integrating them dynamically over the Internet. More recently I have become a business partner of  Oregon.com and co-owner of BoatEscape.com
Oregon Department Of Education,  1/ 98 - 10/30/99    Web Master
At Oregon Department of Education (ODE) my title is "Web Master". I develop, maintain, and administrate the agency's Internet and Intranet sites. In addition I develop web applications using Microsoft Interdev, FrontPage98 and FrontPage2000, Home Site, Visual Basic, Office 2000, and SQL Server. Our Internet shop is practically all Microsoft products with two NT 4 servers running Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0, Index Server, Transaction Server, Site Server, and SQL Server to name a few. On the client's side we use Office 97/Office 2000, FrontPage98/FrontPage 2000, Home Site, Visual Interdev, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe PhotoShop. I have organized, developed, and currently oversee an agency web development team, comprising of persons from each division of the organization. I put on monthly training for the ODE Web Team to better their skills in all aspects for web development. Oregon Department of Education's web site now consists of over 8000 pages and 18 databases.
Oregon Department Of Corrections,  1/ 96 - 1/98   Systems Analyst / Web Master
The duties of my System Analyst position at Corrections was to design, develop, and implement client server computer applications using Visual Basic and tying them into our very complex Criminal Information System (CIS), residing on numerous Oracle and DB400 databases. Connecting to the Oracle Databases on our NT and UNIX platforms are normally done through Oracle's "Objects for OLE", but occasionally is accomplished by the ODBC method. The connection to DB400 tables on the AS400 are done through Oracle's AS400 Gateway product. During my employment there, I was also the Team Leader / Project Manager / Webmaster for the Agency's Internet/Intranet Development , which includes but is not limited to Planning, Designing, Developing, Managing and Supporting the Oregon Department Of Corrections (DOC) Internet and Intranet sites. I was also our backup Oracle Database Administrator. My development work was accomplished on Windows NT Platform connected by a token-ring network to NT Servers, Unix Boxes, and AS400s with extensive use of Oracle products.
U.S. Forest Service, Siuslaw National Forest,   1989 - 1/96   Computer Specialist
My Position on the Forest was that of a zoned Personal Computer (PC) Manager. The duties of that position were to manage and support all the PCs on the Siuslaw National Forest. The position encompassed: technical support, standardization of hardware and software, training needs, security issues, procurement, and futuring. At the time, there were approximately 110 PCs across 6 counties, which were connected at both LAN/WAN levels, using TCP/IP protocol connected to our T-1 lines throughout the Forest. I was also a System Administrator for a Data General Mini (MV-15000), and GIS Workstation. I've been an Oracle DBA (Database Administrator) for 5 years and have Supervisor Experience and Training.

Sites I've Enjoyed Developing:

Writer's Ring
Oregon Department of Education
www.ode.state.or.us
I was the "Web Master" for the Oregon Department of Education for close to two years. There are currently over 9000 web pages and 23 databases that deliver dynamic web pages to thousands of customers. For 1999, the agencies web site averaged 49,000 hits a day. I developed a webteam from employees from the various divisions within the agency, which provided up to date information about the agency. I trained the webteam in all the skills that were required to be productive in getting up to date information to our diverse audience. The agency has numerous web applications that allow central input or querying out of numerous databases (Access 2000 and SQL Server 7.0). The cost saves can be now be felt and all our hard work is really beginning to pay off for the agency. Come visit the site and see for yourself.

Oregon Department of Corrections
www.doc.state.or.us
Previous to working at Department of Education, I worked at the Oregon Department of Corrections, where I wore a couple of hats, one of those being the department's "Web Master".  As in any state agency, there are many pieces to this one. While I was there, it seemed to grow exponentially by the day. Illinois State Corrections was the first State Corrections website, in the nation, to have a search utility on the public information of all their criminals; I was strongly encouraging one for Oregon while I was there! I have offered my services when they get ready to work on such a project. This site is over 1300 web pages. While I was there I also developed a webteam, similar to Department of Education.

BoatEscape.com
www.boatescape.com
Boat Escape is the Ultimate Internet Resource for Boaters and Campers in Oregon. It contains a comprehensive, searchable database of information on ALL Oregon Lakes and Rivers, ALL Campgrounds, and ALL Marinas. It also contains a searchable Business Directory with over 1450 boating, camping and fishing related businesses in Oregon and vicinity. For the first time, all of the boating information that boaters need is available free, in one place, literally at your fingertips 24 hours a day, seven days a week from www.BoatEscape.com

This information was compiled from numerous federal, state, and local sources. Boat Escape provides complete boating and recreation information, in one spot, tailored to the needs of the boater, camper and angler. Recreationists will be able to find their favorite boating and camping sites, or find information about new recreation opportunities on Boat Escape. They will be able to access almost 460 lakes and rivers, almost 1150 plus campground facilities and over 180 marinas in Oregon. They will be able to find that perfect site for their tent or RV and will be able to find information about facilities, fishing, and weather on all the waters in the state. They will also be able to find links to boating and recreational agencies, boat dealers, boat manufactures and other boating related information.

Letip of Salem
www.LetipofSalem.com
Letip is an International business networking organization that I belong to and did their web site. It has a searchable database of all "Letip of Salem" members. It also contains informative information about the group, when we meet, what it is all about and how to get involved.

US Forest Service Aviation Safety Web site
www.aviation.fs.fed.us
This site is really nice. It is the US Forest Service Aviation Safety Managers website. The safety managers love it. The public can submit "Safecoms" (Avaition accidents, close calls, etc) on line into a database. The submission form does two things: (1) submits the record to the Safecom Database and (2) sends an immediate E-Mail message to that region's Aviation Safety Manager to alert them that a new Safecom has been submitted and to take action. Site site currently uses Active Server Pages (ASP) in talking to the various databases on the site. There are currently two of five databases in place. The five databases are listed, with the active ones in Green (Safecom, Personnel, Aircraft Source List, Mishaps, and Training) Another very impressive homepage graphic with mouse-overs on the menus.

I recently made some mach-ups for a bid for A Forest Service Fire and Aviation web site proposal.
(Some nice home page graphics, worth checking out.)

Colliers Parrish Commercial Real Estate Professionals
www.buildingsearch.com
This site includes a number of things, but one of the kickers would be the property listing database "Query By Example" Search Engine, with photographs, floor plans and a map to get there. My friend Jon, whose site this is, has me drastically change this site from month to month, so there is not much use in telling what is there, as I would have to update this resume every couple of weeks. The Real Estate database piece has been there from the beginning, so you can get a feel for how that works. He states it has been a great tool for his clients and in aquiring new clients. Prepare yourself for Shockwave!!

Bonne Forme Vitamins and Skin Care Products
www.bonneforme.com
This site was created for Dr Penny Wise Budoff and here Bonne Forme company. Dr Budoff is a very well know doctor in New York, specializing in womens care.  Dr Budoff now has a line of vitamins, herbs, skincare and cosmetics that we are now selling over the internet in a
Active Server Pages shopping cart with an Access97 database on the back end. She is also a best-selling author of three books.

The Stone Foundation / The Stone Clinic
www.stoneclinic.com

Dr. Stone is a physician for the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Pro Ski Tour and the Smuin Ballet. He served as a physician for the modern pentathlon at the U.S. Olympic Festival and for the United States Olympic Training Center. Lots of good info here!!!

Aviation Safety Division of Office of Aircraft Services
www.oas.gov/oassafty/
This project started off with me developing their "Mishap" database piece, where users can submit a aircraft mishap report. In addition, I developed both a public and secure Query-By-Example pages, where users can ask questions of the aircraft mishap data and get the data returned dynamically in HTML format. After completion of the database piece they asked me to redo their entire website.

Office of Aircraft Services
205.173.0.7
After completing web work for OAS's Safety Division, they kept me on the books to start a much bigger project, their entire OAS website (which will reflect offices and services nation wide). This project was about 70% done and someone pulled the plug. I was very disappointed, as it was really starting to tunr out to be a very nice site. I have a copy of the work on my site, so you can view where it was when I finished. Check it Out

Oregon Citizens Crime Commission

Josef-Seibel.North America
www.josef-seibel.com

Though I did not originally design this site, I am currently working with the company, based out of Salem, Oregon for fixes, enhancements, and web consulting.  I keep telling them they need to reduce the size of their images but they only seem to get bigger each time I go over there and assist. They do have a wonderful product line though; my wife loves their shoes...

Incident Cost And Reporting System (ICARS) Application Download Area
webdoctor.oregon.com/icars
This site is an extention of my home page. This section was developed to be a download area for a Visual Basic application that I wrote fro the US Forest Service. This application tracks, reports and graphs all costs associated to a Forest Fire or Fire Incident.

Oregon Coast Watersports
w
ebdoctor.oregon.com/scuba/
This site is under development. The owners have been very busy and haven't had much time to send the documents that are needed in order to complete this site, but we have the structure and some content in place. Some links might not have content behind them.

Applications I have written:

ICARS - Incident Cost And Reporting System
This application is used on Large Incidents (Fires, Earthquakes, Hurricanes, etc) to track, report, and graph estimated total costs of a Forest Fire or Fire Incident. I originally wrote it Paradox while working for the Forest Service in 1995, but have recently re-writing the application, under contract with the US Forest Service, in Visual Basic 6 with an Access2000 Database in the back end. One of its many forte's is its ability to split costs amongst multiple agencies (Cost Apportionment Module) and its many Reports and Graphs.

Central Records 3x5 Card Application
This application was developed in Visual Basic 4 and Oracle v7.3 for the Oregon Department of Corrections. Prior to this application, Central Records had over 1.3 million 3x5 cards that held microfiche information about Oregon offenders. Now all this information is on-line and ties into our Criminal Information System (CIS). This application uses Oracle's Objects for OLE and Oracle's AS400 Gateway product to read and write to both DB400 on an AS400 and Oracle tables on a Unix Server. The department wishes to replace the microfiching of offender's records with a document imaging system, which this application would be the stepping stone to a much larger application.

Parole Board Reporting
This application was developed in Visual Basic 4 and is used to assist Parole Board staff with daily, weekly, mid-month, monthly and quarterly reports. Prior to this application, staff were required to manually execute dozens of individual reports passing identical parameters for each. This application was a great time saver for the Parole Board staff.

Inmate Assessment Application
This application was developed in Visual Basic 4 and Oracle v7.1 for the Oregon Department of Corrections. This application is used during an offenders initial evaluation and assessment. It is a three-tier client server application as the client piece is on a Windows 95 machine and it writes to DB400 and Oracle tables.
